Steve Ahn works with a wide range of students. He specializes in working with students targeting highly competitive universities as well as students with special circumstances. He has been deeply involved concurrently in college consulting, education, writing, and speaking throughout his career.


COLLEGE CONSULTING

As a college consultant, Mr. Ahn is an active member of the NACAC (National Association of College Admission Counseling) and has been advising pre-college through post-graduate students over the last ten years resulting in their successful admission to Harvard, Stanford, MIT, and other universities as well as Choate, Phillips Exeter, Westminster Schools of Atlanta, and other college-preparatory and magnet schools. Some of his students have been under his tutelage since elementary school. As a current faculty member of Emory University for over the last fifteen years, he reviews application essays and interviews admissions and scholarship applicants. He is also a former Ivy League college admissions interviewer and application reviewer for the University of Pennsylvania (Wharton) and has been interviewing and evaluating students for over the last twenty years. He holds frequent seminars on interviewing, essay writing, and planning for and applying to college.


SPECIALIZED EDUCATION

As an educator, Mr. Ahn has taught for over twenty years and is currently an adjunct professor at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia where he has been teaching undergraduate and post-graduate finance, investments, economics, and financial modeling. He also conducts workshops on writing, speaking, and career development. He previously held professorships at the University of Georgia, the University of Texas, CalState University, and Pepperdine University.

Mr. Ahn also works privately with pre-college students in college preparatory skills as well as in specific subject areas including math, writing (advanced language arts, technical, analytical, MLA, and CMOS), reading (critical analysis, editorial journalism), and public speaking & debate (policy, public forum, LD, and IE). Mr. Ahn also works with students on specific standardized testing including SSAT, ISEE, PSAT, SAT, ACT, GST, and TOEFL. Prior to formal teaching, he tutored high school students at the Westminster Schools of Atlanta.


Mr. Ahn also served as a SETA (Special Education Teaching Assistant) at the former Davison School of Atlanta for children with learning disabilities. Since then, he has worked as a private tutor for autistic, ASD, ADHD, bi-polar, dysgraphic, dyslexic, dyspraxic, and other special-needs students.


PROFESSIONAL WRITING

As a writer, Mr. Ahn's very first published work was as a creative writer contributing to the writing guide and teaching book, Thinking On Paper (1988). Early in his business career, he published economic and marketing research reports for Samsung Company, the British Department of Trade, and the Japanese government (MITI). Mr. Ahn eventually authored the international business book Global Cash Management (1994, 1996), published in two editions. Afterwards, Mr. Ahn was Managing Editor of The Wharton Journal (1997-1998) after serving as a contributing writer and columnist. He has since then been editorial reviewer for publisher John Wiley & Co., a contributor to CNN, BloombergBusinessWeek, National Public Radio, the London Financial Times, FORTUNE magazine, the Economist magazine, USA Today, and other media, and a book reviewer for Pepperdine Graziadio Business Magazine. Mr. Ahn also has academic publishing accolades with Emory University and has served as a private editorial dissertation reviewer for doctoral candidates. He frequently conducts college resume, college application, and essay workshops for high school through post graduate school students and business professionals.


PUBLIC SPEAKING

As a speaker, Mr. Ahn is a frequent guest speaker, panelist, and judge for various topics on business, economics, and motivation. He was specially recognized by the State of California Senate for talks on finance and entrepreneurship. He gives frequent seminars and coaches effective presenting, successful interviewing, non-verbal communication interpretation, and analytical case competition. Previously, he enjoyed a successful forensic policy debate career as a record-setting top speaker with the Westminster Schools of Atlanta and with Emory University's Barkley Forum. He continues to volunteer as a teacher, coach, and judge in formal speech and debate.
